My first try at abstract painting!

Lesson from “Happy Abstracts” by Jessi Raulet, Etta Vee

I have recently retired. Freedom from working for others except when I feel like it! It’s a great feeling. Unfortunately, I hurt my back a few weeks ago, and I have been forced to stay home and entertain myself.

My daughter, Andrea Lauren , print maker, bought me the Happy Abstracts book for Mothers Day this year. So, I finally found time to use it. I used acrylics to make this abstract. I love these as they dry so fast. I used art paper from a pad. I wish I had used a canvas but stuck at home I did not have a canvas available. Not much planning going on now!

Jesse’s instructions in the book are simple and easy to follow. Compared to other types of painting there is a great sense of freedom. I find my lack of drawing skills and unsteady hands make fine art painting difficult.

This type of artwork will go well with interior design themes. You can carefully choose colours that work with your home colour palette. I did not do this because I am now embracing randomness.

I highly recommend Happy Abstracts, if you love colour and want to paint why not give this a go? It’s great, especially if drawing is not your thing and you need some direction to get started on abstract work. There are several projects in the book and I am excited to try another one.
